JOB SUMMARY:
The City of Mills is always taking applications for the volunteer half of our combination fire department. Hiring is dependent upon the needs of the department. These positions offer a shift stipend and various other benefits and income opportunities. The Mills Combination Fire Department will train you while you earn your pay and benefits. The volunteer Firefighter will be responsible for fighting fires and providing emergency medical care to citizens.
DUTIES may include:
- Responds to all types of fires and other emergencies; provides emergency medical care at a basic and advanced life support level; extinguishes fires; performs related life and property protection; and performs fire prevention and education activities.
- Drives any and all emergency vehicles in order to respond to emergency and non-emergency calls.
- Places apparatus at emergency and non-emergency scenes; operates pumps; regulates water pressure through hose lines.
- Assists the Engineer on the proper condition, maintenance and appearance of apparatus, and equipment; performs basic preventative maintenance on fire department equipment; prepares apparatus and equipment for immediate response.
- Participates in training activities, including daily physical fitness training and on-going fire, rescue, and medical training.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (G.E.D.) required.
- Possession of a minimum valid Class “C” driver’s license. (Required for job)
OPPORTUNITY for LICENSING AND CERTIFICATION for :
- Possession of, or ability to obtain, a valid Wyoming Class “B” driver’s license
- Emergency Medical Technician B certification
- State Firefighter I and II Certification
- CPR/BLS Certification
- EMT Intermediate and Paramedic Licensing
- Training will be provided to assist in completing FF1, FF2 and acquiring the Red Card. Additional training may be provided to assist in acquiring BLS and EMT certifications
Ability to:
- Establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
- Demonstrate physical endurance, agility, strength and stamina in the performance of hazardous tasks under emergency conditions; think and act quickly in emergencies.
- Learn to operate and maintain voice radio equipment.
- Learn to apply firefighting techniques and procedures.
- Learn to apply current medical emergency techniques and procedures.
- Learn appropriate hazardous material training.
- Learn the layout of the response areas water main system and street numbering system.
- Make decisions quickly and calmly under emergency conditions.
- Work with EMS in delivering medical attention to the level of training.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The position of Firefighter typically requires the following: stooping, kneeling, crouching, reaching, standing, walking, crawling, pushing, pulling, lifting, grasping, talking, hearing, seeing and repetitive motions.
Medium/Heavy work: Exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and/or 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to lift, carry, push and pull or otherwise move objects, including the human body.
The position of Firefighter may be subject to extreme temperatures and conditions.
