Qualifications
To qualify for employment with the Mills Department, you must meet the following:
- 21 years of age;
- Be a United Sates citizen;
- Successfully pass all physical, written oral and medical testing;
- Submit to fingerprinting and a search of local, state, and national files to determine whether the applicant has a criminal record;
- Have not been convicted of any crime for which the applicant could have been punished by imprisonment in a federal or a state penitentiary;
- Hold a high school diploma or equivalent;
- Be of good moral character. Mills Police Department will complete a thorough background investigation;
- Be free of any physical, emotional, or mental condition which might adversely affect the applicant’s performance as a peace officer. Emotional and mental conditions will be evaluated by a licensed psychologist or psychiatrist; and
- Successfully pass each phase of testing, which includes a physical examination, written examination and oral interviews.
Upon successful completion of all testing phases, applicants who are chosen to become officers with Mills Police Department, shall undergo and are required to successfully pass a background investigation, which includes, but shall not be limited to:
- Check current drug and alcohol abuse;
- Interview with applicant’s spouse, roommates, family members and significant others;
- Check of personal references;
- Check of employment history;
- Check of school records;
- Check of military records;
- Check DCI & FBI fingerprint files to determine if applicant has a criminal record. (The check shall be made in every state where the applicant has resided);
- Check driving record;
- Check present and past employer references. (This could include a check with the applicant’s immediate supervisor and peers.);
- Check credit history; and
- Check Wyoming POST files and any other prior certification history files of other certifying or licensing agencies. (The check shall be made in every state where the applicant has been employed.)
